"It Sat On Her..."

"It Sat On Her..."

Hospitals have a lot of ghost stories and this particular haunting is another one from my JI/Clerkship days in MCU. You could say that I was getting an education in more ways than one from staying at the hospital.

There was an Intern who was assigned to the Surgery department who decided to sleep in the assigned Surgery quarters on the 2nd floor. Since this room was beside the Surgery office she could easily be summoned when there were duties that were to be done in the night time. She was particularly tired this afternoon because they had to do an emergency procedure on a gun shot victim in the wee hours of the morning.

She was so tired that she fell asleep the moment she lay on the bed. It was restful sleep. She was lying on her left side facing the wall when she felt something heavy on her hips. At first she thought that it was one of her friends who decided to wake her up but she was puzzled that they would not talk to her or shake her which they often did. Instead she distinctly felt someone sitting on her hip as she lay on her side. She had not opened her eyes by then but she decided that she wanted to see who it was that was playing around.

When she opened her eyes. She saw a child sitting on her hips. She knew that this was not a human child. It was simply too pale. It looked at her and smiled but did not move. She closed her eyes again and began praying. She felt the pressure go. When she opened her eyes the child was gone. She ran from the room and stayed at the more crowded pediatric quarters a few doors down.

No one could properly explain why this child ghost favors certain people in the ward but a theory is that it is looking for a mother and this particular intern was the sort to be kind and nurturing. Safe to say that none slept in those quarters alone for awhile.
