"Pauper Kings: White Green Khan Heroics 2014"

"Pauper Kings: White Green Khan Heroics 2014"

Khans of Tarkir have rolled in and Return to Ravnica has rolled out and while there are cards that we will mourn for there are other cards that we will rejoice having. One of my main concerns was the out going common dual lands that has made a lot of Standard Pauper decks possible. With the Addition of the Khans Common Dual lands I guess I find that making a lot of Standard Pauper decks are still possible. With the addition of 1 life point whenever these lands come into play. There are a lot of speedy decks in any given environment and this 1 life point sort of makes up for the fact that these lands come into play tapped. So I believe this is a great improvement.

On to the update of this Selesnyan Heroic deck with a bit of Khans in it. I think that a lot of people will see the savageness of green here. Theros has always been about making the little guys strong and with these new spells from Khans add a few extra things as well.

If this deck feels familiar it is because it involves a lot of my favorites like Setessan Oathsworn and Lagonna-Band Trailblazer. The former being a monster with little effort and the latter a great one drop that defends with the Ferocity of a Yoked Ox while having the potential to grow and smash face in the later parts of the game. Heliods Pilgrim also joins the deck but instead of fetching an Ethereal Armor(goodbye in Standard , See you in Modern Pauper!) it looks for Chosen by Heliod , a card that allows you to draw a card while at the same time targets any of your Heroic creatures to make them bigger.

Elvish mystic still comes in for early mana acceleration. A godsend because he was reprinted in M15. Rounding out the crew of Enchantment creatures are Hopeful Eidolon and Leafcrown Dryad that pull double duty since they can be cast as creatures when you have no bodies on the field to block or be saved for later so that you could have life linking / reach monsters on your side of the board.

Savage Punch is one of the cards that I am excited about here because it takes the place of the rotating Pit fight.
It is a splashable 2 mana instant spells that makes up your spot removal in the deck while still interacting with your Heroic creatures to make them bigger. Case in point is the Setessan Oathsworn , in its basic 1/1 form , once you target it with Savage Punch it becomes a 3/3 creature and fights a creature of your choice. If you have a creature with power 4 or greater(which is not so hard to achieve in this kind of deck) the Ferocious mechanic triggers on the card as well , giving your 3/3 Setessan Oathsworn an additional +2/+2 until the end of you turn , allowing you to punch with a 5 power level. And once you have cleared a big creature on your opponents side of the board with this spell you are also free to attack with the 5/5 creature taking 1/4 of your opponents life!

Feat of Resistance is another card that I am excited about here since it allows you to do a lot of battle tricks. In the Khans of Tarkir pre release I found a lot my creatures dying from this spell since a blocker could be pumped up with a +1/+1 counter and even have protection from the color of your choice until end of turn. Setessan Oathsworn for example becomes a 4/4 giant that could smash through defenses once you have him targeted with this. None of your creatures would be slouches on the defensive end as well.

Titanic Growth. What can I say. What do I love more than a 4/4 Setessan Oathsworn? Well a 6/6 Setessan Oathsworn  of course and Titanic Growth could do that in a jiffy. For 2 mana you now have a colossal 6/6 in play until the end of your turn.
The deck will run a bit slower as it has a lot of 2 to cast spells but what it loses in speed it will make up for in power. I guess this is it for now. It is time to be Heroic and Fight someone!
