"Ghostfire Blade:Arming the Infect Aggressors"

"Ghostfire Blade:Arming the Infect Aggressors"

One of the things I love about Magic is that a new set could come out and there would be something in that set that could improve existing decks that you have tremendously. Case in point is Ghostfire blade which is something that is meant to be equipped to morph creatures of the set since they are colorless. For one mana and an equip cost of 3 you could have a creature have a +2/+2 power boost. The equip cost is lessened by 2 if you are equipping it to a colorless creature or in this case a morph creature but this is just talking about the present.Using in the cards of the past prove to be more evil.

The other targets that I could see for the Ghostfire blade are artifact creatures.M15 has recently reprinted the Ornithopter and could easily be a target as early as turn 2 making it a formidable 2/4 flying creature or a Phyrexian Revoker that could easily be a 4/3 creature.Ghostfire blade will sure have a place in Aggressive Modern affinity decks. It could provide a massive power pump while upping the artifact count for Cranial plating.

Aside from these artifact creatures and the reason why I am writing this piece is that it could also equip to certain man lands. In Standard it could be equipped to an Ensouled Darksteel Citadel , making a 7/7 Indestructible Monstrosity. In Modern the likes of  Mutavault, Blinkmoth Nexus and my favorite Inkmoth Nexus all gain benefits from the Ghostfire blade. The reason why I love Ghostfire blade is because of Infect. Infect which has tons of Artifact creatures gains a permanent and cheap stat pumping artifact for just one mana! Imagine the aggression and the poison kills. A 3/3 Inkmoth Nexus in turn 3. Yes , it does not have the same effect as a sudden G-Growth or Brute Force but hey this one is a permanent stat pump. And sometimes you like that kind of stability. So this is how the play would look like...ideally.

Turn 1:Play Inkmoth Nexus , Play Ghostfire blade
Turn 2: Play Land , Activate Inkmoth Nexus , 1 Poison counter
Turn 3: Play Land, Activate Inkmoth Nexus , Equip Ghostfire blade for One mana. Attack with 3/3 Flying Infect creature...4 poison counters
Turn 4: Play Land, Activate Inkmoth Nexus , Equip Ghostfire blade for One mana. Attack with 3/3 Flying Infect creature...8 poison counters

Imagine if there was one more Ghostfire blade. A 5/5 Flying Infect creature...hmmmm....

You could also imagine this on a Necropede or an Ichorclaw Myr. A simple mana producing creature like Plaque myr suddenly becomes a threat. Heck it could even tap itself to equip the Ghostfire blade on itself when you have no other viable targets!

There are tons of colorless tokens like those produced by the Eldrazi brood. However I still think that Infect and the artifact creatures of its ilk would greatly benefit from the blade. I can't wait to find out.
