"The Insidious: Destroyed by the Further"

"The Insidious: Destroyed by the Further"

After some persistence from my wife I finally decided to watch the first part so we could decide if we will be watching Insidious Chapter 2 in the Movie theater or just wait for our local DVD seller (aka Pirates) to just hand a copy over some time after October.

A lot of the people I know told me that this was indeed a scary story and I have to hand it to them. It really was scary

Plot: After moving to a new house , A child in the family suddenly falls into an unexplainable coma. Strange things begin to happen around the house as well as around the child. Fearing the entities that seem to surround their child the family decides to move to a new house only to find that it might not be their old house that was haunted...

The Good:
-The movie has really good tension and moments where you just end up surprised.

-And yes even when the plot was going a bit downhill there were still scary moments. Up to the very end actually.

- The Boxes and Books moving around by themselves...Nice.

- The old woman in the picture who is after the Dad's Body. The pictures as she went nearer and nearer. Creepy.

- The Man with the Flame in his face. His appearance right beside the father. His appearance as a shadow right next to the child. The claw marks.

- The Lady Ghost in the corridor.

- The playful child ghost in the new house.

- I was actually cheering when the Medium was killed. There was something a bit too much there.

The Bad:
- For me it all went downhill when they started mentioning The Further. The Further of what? Further there? Further here? It started to sound like some weak Fantaserye that you could see in our local channels.

- The supposed demon that was really creepy in the beginning began to look like well , just another creature. And what the hell was it doing in the further actually? It looked like it was sewing. Maybe adding some more studs to its gauntlet?

This guy was scarier in the shadows...
- The Dangers of uncontrolled Astral Projection.
The Dad and his mother not mentioning the ability until later. Could have saved a lot of medical bills just by having the medium come in first.

The Ugly:
- The Line:They are seeping into this world...Followed by ghosts coming out of the woodwork like some common cockroaches. They didn't seem to be seeping , they seemed liked badly dressed actors and actresses in white make up and period costumes coming out of closets. Boo.

- The Further. Walking into the unknown is scary. Walking into a limbo while being bumped around by ghosts seemed like a scene in an MTV video about a rapper in a club being slammed by club revelers.
I had better nightmares than that limbo.

"Kinda look like what Joker would look like when he died..."
- The Seance scene where the medium wore the gas mask like device. It began to look like an S&M scene rather than a seance. I understand the need for secrecy but she was a medium travelling through a spirit world full of things that could plainly distinguish a living soul from themselves. Why all the whispering then? what was the point?

Conclusion:
To end this I still think that the movie would have been perfect if they did not reveal the demons features. He was great in the shadows. The Further also ruined the whole feel of the movie.
My verdict is to wait for the local pirate to hand over the booty and I would rather fork over my money to watch Riddick.

  1. Watched this movie with Liz a long time back and was kinda disappointed at the ending but oh well, I guess that's to be expected when it comes to horror movies. The last horror movie that we enjoyed watching was Mirrors.
