"Brimming with Power: Izzet Power Burn Pauper"

"Brimming with Power: Izzet Power Burn Pauper"

When people think about the Izzet and their color combination in Magic the thing that first comes to mind is the mix of Burn and Counter spells. No one would say that the Izzet is aggressive. They love blowing things up but smashing faces sounds more like a Rakdos or Boros thing to do. Of course until you see this list that I have for you:

9 X Mountains
9 X Islands
4 X Izzet guildgate

4 X Goblin Electromancer
4 X Frostburn Weird
4 X Ember beast
4 X Nivix Cyclops
4 X OmenSpeaker

4 X Shock
4 X Lightning Strike
3 X Disperse
4 X Voyage's End
3 X Wild guess

18 Spells

Sideboard:
4 X Electrickery
4 X Annihilating Fire
2 X Explosive Impact

The stage has been set for the pauper scene but there are lot of innovative decks that could still come out of the woodwork. The Izzet for example have a very cool 3 mana cost card in the form of the Nivix Cyclops. Now a defender is not really something that screams offense but this is where the cyclops comes in a bit handy. You see when you cast an instant or sorcery spell is becomes a 4/4 creature that loses its Defender status. It comes alives and potentially dishes out 4 damage to your opponents.

Now I have included around 18 spells in this deck. Some of them are Burn ( Shock , Lightning Strike) and some are bounce ( Disperse , Voyages End). 1 set is the Wild Guess which allows you to draw 2 cards in exchange for discarding 1 card. Now these cards are here to trigger the Nivix Cyclops  , most likely I would be burning a creature and attacking my opponent  or bouncing a creature and attacking.

To reduce the mana cost of these spells there is a set of Goblin Electromancer. Most of the spells would then cost 1 mana and in this pauper environment this could be really helpful. I have added Ember Beast because he is just a great 3/4 body who wants to attack with someone else. And the Frostburn Weird could be pumped into a 4/1 attacker should the need arise. Normally he is just there as a 1/4 wall content to stand there and watch.

The sideboard includes a lot more burn and the best mass removal for low powered creatures which is Electrickery. I am really going to enjoy setting off the cyclops lose. I wished Kilnfiend was still around but oh well. The Cyclops is pretty good all by itself.
