Doubling Monster...Giant Adephage

Doubling Monster...Giant Adephage

As a great fan of the Black / Green Archetype or Golgari Guild Colors I am always on the look out for creatures that I can add to my 2 Golgari EDH decks. Creatures that give enormous Advantage when it comes to control of the battlefield. I normally play with really big creatures which can be easily cast with the Mana Ramping abilities of Green or can be cheated into play with the Reanimator components of Black. So I usually want to play with creatures that are normally shunned in standard because players don't gravitate toward them. Things that are labeled to be hard to cast whose prices become really low because no one in standard has figured out a way to use them. I am a Timmy at heart and the card Giant Adephage has the Timmy Design written all over it. At 2 Green and 5 colorless mana this card  along with those that make up its current cycle was designed to take up the vacant slot of the now cycled out Titans. As of this writing it seems that aside from the Primordials , these big fatties are being paired up in all the colors.

The ability that it has fits well into Golgari Aggro strategies because you have a 7/7 monster to reanimate. And if it does deal damage you would have 2 monsters that have the same ability. With the trample ability already built in this Giant Insect is sure to deal damage ( unless of course your opponent has a 7 or up monster blocking this as well) and create a token that is an exact copy. Now imagine 2 of those attacking. At the end of your turn you would have 4 creatures and it would double as more and more deal combat damage to a player. With 2 or more swings then that is a game in EDH or in Standard or Modern. This is like Utvara Hellkite all over again. It doubles with each successful attack. In EDH , you could sacrifice the token to Jarad and deal 7 damage to all of your opponents at the same time. With the original Adephage in play and 4 tokens then it would be a wrap. A very quick wrap if the opponent has no proper responses.

Gate Crash is shaping up to be a really fun expansion and the ridiculous cards keep on coming. At least there is more for my Golgari army to incorporate even if they are already focusing on the five other guilds and their new mechanics.
