It sat there gathering dust
Forgotten but still waiting
Full of whispered promises
and often regretful endings.

Held by so many hands
Their only friend in this place
Sooner or later they leave
And it waited for them in lace
III
Borrowed and broken and passed
Still into much tender hearts
Unjaded and still beating
It is there, gathering dust , still waiting.

She cried herself to sleep again
Knowing that she was left here
Even though she held on to their promise
Every day she found it a little bit fading

The days were long , the nights were restless
Something was always happening
If it was not one thing
then it was sure to be another
III
This will end. They will come back
She whispered to the small brown bear
And as if knowing her pain
The small thing nodded

Toward that end that I savor
Not darkness or light
Not a feeling or flavor

But the end of all this
and the end of all fear
And at the edge I shout
I am finally free
