"The Reason for Pain"

Why do people chase pain?
The Child asked the elder
Because sometimes Pain is where they live
The Elder Answered.
II
Because the dull becomes sharp
And they breathe a little better
when that knife is pointed
a little deeper on their sides
III
Chasing pain because it is the only way
That some feel alive in this existence
And to not feel that pain
Is to die an excruciating death.
