"Unblockable Gear:Smashing Through"

"Unblockable Gear: Smashing Through"

Being invisible means that you could always come and go as you please. Steal something. Kill someone all in perfect concealment. The stuff of thieves and assassins. Magic is full of these creature types and more.

The three artifacts I that am going to compare today make passing all those blocking creatures easy. Now grab a seat and read on.

The first artifact comes from the set of Theros. The Prowler's Helm  , now several years ago when Walls and Defenders were the norm you would never ever get to see an artifact like this printed. The walls were ever present and it would just prove utterly useless but in a world where there are simply just a few of them well , the setting for it to appear is perfect. As of this writing there are a few notable walls in standard like Guardian of Ages , Colossus of Akros  , Angelic Wall and Returned Phalanx that might be stumbling blocks for creatures equipped with this 2 mana cost artifact. Seems like a good bet that a lot of people will not play those cards in Standard or in EDH for that matter unless they were playing an all Wall Themed EDH deck . If that is the case then you are screwed but what exactly is the chance of that ever happening right? Right now this is being hailed as the next Trail Blazers boots and for good reason. It allows a lot creatures to go unopposed for the win.

Of course if you are looking for a much better win condition then look no further than the always reliable Whispersilk cloak that first appeared in the original Mirrodin Block as a 3 mana cost artifact that makes creatures not only unblockable but have Shroud as well. Now imagine a Dragon disappearing when equipped with the cloak, it becomes an attacker that none of your opponents could defend against and short of mass removal remain on the board to do its damage for a long time. Scary thought right? but that is how players have been using it for a long time now in EDH battles all around the world. The Whispersilk Cloak is built for attack but the Shroud it comes with also helps in protecting Generals especially when the overall strategy is to merely have it in play like Gaddock Teeg for example.

Trailblazers boots rounds out these artifacts by checking for non-basic lands on your opponents board and letting your equipped creature  pass through those same lands unopposed. It is a given that in EDH there will be a lot of non-basic lands.Heck some decks only have non-basic lands. Hence the sure shot to the jaw that this artifact can give you.It cost less than the Whispersilk too and easier to find.

So with these 3 being compared the best equipment still goes to the oldest one.Of course it is still hands down the Whispersilk cloak because of the added Shroud effect yet Prowlers Helm and Trail blazers boots from the Zendikar will always be EDH staples for the mere fact that they let the damage coming and it is something that people want to keep on doing to win.

Now that you know. Make your creatures disappear and have a great time bleeding opponents out.
