I love monsters. Monsters are the face of the enemy.They give us something to focus on.They give us something to shoot at when we are the heroes.

I also love them because we have a little bit of them inside of us.We find them awesome. Ogle at their images and imagine what would happen if they were real. At least in magic  , our imaginations can become a reality. We get to play them.

Consider this when we play magic. One of the first things we were probably introduced into were really cool creatures that could deal a lot of damage and the second kind of creature we were introduced to were creatures that had cool abilities. In Theros there are a lot of Monsters that could be called to do your bidding. They even have a specific Mechanic called Monstrosity where when you pay a specific amount of mana you get to add counters on these creatures and  get a useful effect. For today I would like to talk about Hythonia the Cruel. 

People like talking about Hydras , I would like to talk about Gorgons because of my affinity with the Golgari. Now to start off  Hythonia is a 4/6 Legendary creature with Deathtouch. She cost 4 colorless mana and 2 black mana to cast. Casting her is a commitment in itself because it might take several turns normally. Reanimators won't have much of a problem with her though and the ability that she has which is Monstrosity 3 for 8 mana is not much of a stretch for necromancers who add a bit of nature magic in the mix. I have 2 decks that fit that mold and I am excited to add Hythonia to both of them. 

Aside from being 7/9 when her Monstrous ability is activated she also has the Massive removal ability of destroying all Non-Gorgon creatures. All the Gorgons are talking among themselves and saying , we have a deck now? It certainly is possible with a Sisters of Stone Death as Commander. Hythonia won't probably rate as high with other players , definitely not in standard but I will value her because you can never have enough creature removal , especially in an environment where people can make a million tokens in the blink of an eye.

And what would Hythonia do when she takes care of the Non-Gorgons? There is nothing else to do but attack until everyone else is gone. Now I call that pretty monstrous.
